雪-粒雪薄片的制作、摄影和观测

摘    要:在预冷的载玻片上滴一层预冷的十二烷液体,把底面打磨平整的粒雪块体压在该层液体上,待冻结后先用带锯将块体未充填十二烷的部分切去,再经切片机加工,可获得理想的雪-粒雪薄片。根据研究目的,可对薄片摄影和测量雪-粒雪晶体C轴方位。

Abstract:It is a "considerably more difficult" work to prepare a snow / firn thin section to investigate the basic physical properties of snow / firn near the surface of ice sheet. The techniques in preparation of it was explored by the present authors. It is believed that dodecane is a superior filler reinforcing snow / firn in the preparation of thin sections. The method described by Alley, R.B. has been greatly improved in the practical work carried out in Antarctica and the quality and efficiency of work are promoted remarkably. Skills in photograph and observation of crystal fabric orientation with dodecane sections have been outlined in this paper as well.
