Abstract: | A surface interpreted as the tops of the “granitic layer” is recognizable along the entire traverse. The zone-to-zone (tectonic) transitions have both structural and topographic expressions. Salt beds and presumably Carboniferous and Devonian horizons (one of each) are typical of the Caspian Depression. As a whole, the “Volga-Kura” geophysical-geological profile (fig. 2) shows a multi-layer crust, a wide variety of tectonic elements, complexities of structural boundaries, instabilities of the physical parameters, zones of disturbances interpretable tentatively as vertical partitions within the crust. – V.P.
