Nature of Donets basin and Dnepr-Donets downwarp
Abstract:The widely held view on the asynchroneity in the geological evolution of the Pacific Ocean and Mediterranean mobile belts is not justified on the basis of currently available information. The times of initiation of the geosynclinal systems, transgressions, volcanic phases, and the optimal mineralization In the West Pacific and Mediterranean mobile belts approximately coincide. Statements about the specific nature of the Pacific Ocean structures, clearly Indicating special patterns in their formation, are not supported. There are similar structures with a like succession of structural-associational zones within the continents.

In fact, the existing differences between the West Pacific and Mediterranean belts have been controlled by the marginal position of the Pacific Ocean geosynclines and regeneration of the Alpine geosyticlines in the Mediterranean area on Baykalides and Hercynides. The Pacific Ocean marginal geosynclines have developed and continue to develop (predominantly on an oceanic crust) more harmonically and completely than the Mediterranean types, which facilitates the study of the patterns of the geological processes as exemplified by them. These patterns may be used during work on the Mediterranean belt and in other regions of the Atlantic segment of the globe. —Author.
