SOME SUGGESTIONS CONCERNING THE PRINCIPLES OF CLASSIFICATION OF ORE-BEARING AREAS

The suggested classification of ore-bearing areas, characterized by endogenous mineralization, is based on the relative extension of linear ore-bearing areas (metallogenic belts and zones) and non-linear areas (metallogenic provinces and districts, ore-bearing districts, ore-bearing centers, and ore fields). Various categories of ore-bearing areas are characterized by specific magmatism (petrographic formations) and mineralization (metallogenic specialization) which depend on various stages of geological evolution of the geosynclines and platfortns in time and space. This classification is expected to be of assistance in prospecting for new ore-bearing areas and deposits. — E.A. Alexandrov.
