INDICATIONS OF A NEW TYPE OF COPPER MINERALIZATION IN THE SOUTHEASTERN ALTAY
Abstract:This article reports on the discovery of artesian flow from the Paleocene Bokhara limestone on the crest of the Nurbeteck anticline in South Turkmenia. The water is sodium sulfate water containing ''up to 6.2 g/L of dissolved salts" and is identified as "slightly mineralized" and said to be satisfactory "for herd-watering and industrial purposes." The sharp decrease in flow of the well completed after March 1962 is attributed to caving in of the superjacent formations, but it would appear that the lowering of hydrostatic head may have been caused by partial depletion of the storage capacity in the limestone. Four other aquifers are described briefly.—B. N. Cooper.
