VALUE OF THE LONGITUDINAL CROSS-SECTION OF A RIVER VALLEY IN ENGINEERING GEOLOGICAL PLANNING
Abstract:A longitudinal topographic river section and a large-scale geological map allow the geological engineer to forecast with an accuracy sufficient for practical purposes the geological engineering conditions expected at the river valley portion under consideration. The bends of the longitudinal river section provide “guide features” of a sort in choosing the most favorable site for concrete dams. In geologically young river valleys, areas of locally increased gradient of the river are most favorable for concrete dam construction.—Auth. English summ.
