Abstract: | Apart from its obvious attractions for the visiting tourist, Jamaica is geologically significant, with a rock record dating from the Cretaceous and occupying a position at the north–east end of the Nicaraguan Rise, adjacent to the North Caribbean Plate Boundary Zone. During the Cretaceous, Jamaica was part of an island arc, but since the Eocene the rock record has been dominated by limestones. |
