Discovery of cosmic spherules from the Taiyuan Formation in the Jiaozuo area and its features
Abstract:Cosmic spherules are important materials from outer planet.Studying cosmic spherules contributes to the knowledge of the origin and evolution of solar system.We found these cosmic spherules in the rocks of the Upper Carboniferous Taiyuan Formation in the Jiaozuo mining area while studying the limestone of coalfield These cosmic spherules are about 7 um in diameter and mostly spherical in outline.Their surfaces are ornamented with plicated, cracked, vesicular, warty, spherular,microlitic and polygonal structures.Through the energy spectral electronic probing analysis, we also found that the cosmic spherules from the limestone L2 of coalfield consist mainly of SiO2 and Al2O3, not bearing NiO.Thus, the spherules in this area are glassy cosmic spherules.
