Abstract: | The glorious years of discovery in radio astronomy in the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge were dominated by the personality of Martin Ryle. The contact to the theorists, in the Observatories only a short distance away, were occasionally strained. Personal experience from this era will be the subject of this contribution.
