Abstract: | Prediction of sedimentation is very important before the construction of a reservoir to get an idea of the expected life time of the project.Empirical trap efficiency evaluation cannot consider the special conditions of each individual reservoir. Therefore hydrodynamic sedimentological models are used to simulate the rather complex sedimentation processes. \ The paper describes the 2D model FLOODSIM application to a case study where an existing reservoir will be divided into two by a newly planned dam.For touristic and ecological reasons the smaller upstream part is supposed to keep a nearly constant water level throughout the year, whereas the water level in the main reservoir will change according to varying water management needs. The FLOODSIM model shows that the reservoir division strongly increases sedimentation upstream of the new dam and thus reduces significantly the expected life time of this part of the reservoir. \ |
