A Speculative Cultural Geography: A Free-For-All Approach to Introductory Cultural Geography
Abstract:Abstract

A Speculative Cultural Geography is a format for an introductory course in Cultural Geography in which the student is given maximum opportunity to determine and comprehend the decision-making processes which have been instrumental in the development of historical and contemporary cultural landscapes. The rationale behind the creation of this combination of role-playing and in-class argumentation in conjunction with sequential themes in Cultural Geography is the belief that media-conscious students in college today justly demand more involvement in the learning process than merely being the passive recipients of traditional lectures. This paper outlines the theory behind the creation of the Speculative Cultural Geography and elaborates three hypothetical Speculations and class reactions to them.
