A dipole approximating to the highest possible degree the earth's magnetic field

Summary The coordinates and the components of the dipole approximating to the highest possible degree the earth's magnetic field are determined minimizing a sum of squares of differences between the dipole field and the earth's magnetic field. Numerical results by the aid of a digital computer have been obtained for epoch 1932, 1937, 1942, 1945, 1950, 1955 and 1960 on the basis of magnetic data from 61 observatories.
