Abstract: | The deformation of objects which can be used to define a cylinder (quasi-cylindrical objects) under uniaxial strain is examined. An expression is derived which enables the compactional strain to be calculated from a wide range of single unoriented fossils, and an example of the use of the method given. The method can also be used to determine strain ratios under conditions of pure flattening or pure constriction, i.e. strains with axial symmetry. |
