Abstract:In this paper influence of PDC rake angle , bit pressure ,rotary speed and water flow rate on penetration rate is considered with experimental data obtained . The experiment is done using orthogonal method . It is demonstrated that the rake angle has the most influence among the parameters discussed . Optimal rake angles are different depending upon rocks drilled . For example ,the angle is 20?for marble and 10?for granite .Optimal rake angles cor-respond to minimum specific energy for rock fragmentation . It is recommended to define the PDC rake angle and operating parameters according to the minimum specific energy .
