Abstract: | The light reflected by the Saturn ring B acquires a polarization which varies with phase angle, wavelength, and position on the rings. This polarization results from the combined effects of two components P0 and T. The component P0 keeps its azimuth always parallel to the scattering plane and its amount varies with phase angle and wavelength, as for direct reflection at the surface of solid bodies. The polarization T has its azimuth all around the ring either parallel or perpendicular to the radius vector; unexpectedly its amount varies with time, often significantly in a few days in ways which are not predictable. |
