A Quasi-static nucleation model. 2. Application of the model to some mechanisms of ice generation

Abstract:A model of ice heterogeneous nucleation is developed basing on assumption of embryo–size quasi–static distribution. When the system becomes meta-stable (increased supersaturation or supercooling), the largest embryos become viable. The viable embryo number and generation rate are estimated for direct sublimation of vapor onto the surface of the ice–generating nucleus and for immersion freezing. The calculation results are compared against experimental data.
