Abstract: | Morphometric characteristics of free bends and their correlation with discharges are studied. Basing on distribution different specific variables (curvature radius, bend steps, etc.) of the river without tributaries it has been established for medium and large rivers that the coefficient in the correlation equation of the morphometric characteristic versus the mean maximal water discharge depends on the seasonal runoff irregularities, and, thus the forms of bends depend on the specific features of river regime. At the same time the relationship between the morphometric characteristics and the mean annual water discharge is stable for all rivers. For small rivers, the relationships of such parameters to discharges are exponential, closely quadratic and linear for medium and large rivers. The value of the parameter does not depend on water discharges at largest rivers. The obtained relationships can be used in the management of channels of meandering rivers and for purposes of paleohydrological reconstruction. |
