Le problème de l'interprétation des directions «a» déterminées par l'étude des linéations déformées

Résumé A partir de quatre exemples réels on montre qu'il n'existe pas de relations évidentes et simples entre directions «a» et déformation finie, que les directions «a» n'ont pas de signification mécanique particulière, et que, d'un point de vue cinématique, elles n'indiquent qu'une direction de mouvement différentiel entre les flancs de plis. Les interprétations de tectonique régionale qui s'appuient sur les caractéristiques d'un champ de directions «a» deviennent, dans ces conditions, hautement subjectives et toujours sujets à caution.

Through a study of four real cases, it was found that clear and simple relations between a direction tectonics and finite deformation do not exist. It was further realised that the a directions possess no mechanical meaning and that finally, from a kinematical point of view, they merely show the direction of differential movement between the limbs of a fold.Regional tectonical studies based on field characteristics of a directions, without taking these facts in account, are highly subjective and should be taken with much care.

Zusammenfassung Anhand von vier Beispielen aus der Natur wird darauf hingewiesen, daß offensichtliche und einfache Beziehungen zwischen den tektonischen a-Richtungen und der finiten Deformation nicht bestehen, daß die a-Richtungen keine spezielle mechanische Bedeutung haben, und schließlich daß sie, kinematisch gesehen, nur die Richtung von Differentialbewegungen zwischen den Flanken einer Falte anzeigen.Wird dem in regionaltektonischen Deutungen, die sich auf die Charakteristika eines Feldes von a-Richtungen stützen, nicht Rechnung getragen, so sind sie höchst subjektiv und mit Vorsicht zu betrachten.
