Following the successful 1st IGCP 506 sym- posium in Nanjing （Nov. 2005）, the 2nd Workshop in Beijing, China （during the IPC2006, June 2006） and the 3rd Workshop in Krakow of Poland （Sept. 2006）, the Inter- national Geoscience Programme IGCP 506 organized its fourth international symposium from 4-8 July, 2007 in the University of Bristol, UK.
