Abstract:The development of currents and eddies in a basin of variable depth with two straits is studied within the framework of the nonlinear theory of long waves taking into account turbulent viscosity and the Coriolis parameter. The problem is solved numerically. We perform the comparative analysis of the results of modeling of currents in a homogeneous liquid. It is shown that these results depend on the location of the straits and bottom topography. Only jet currents are formed in basins of constant depth with symmetric straits. Eddy structures periodically appear in the presence of asymmetric straits.
