Abstract: | Among the various types of rocks, basalts are by far most suitable for palaeomagnetic studies. However, the magnetic parameters of basaltic rocks vary over a wide range and so also the magnetic stability. These features have been studied extensively for samples from Deccan and Rajmahal traps. The implications of the results on the palaeomagnetism of these formations in particular and that of basalts in general are discussed. |
