Abstract:
Some garnet and omphacite megacrysts which are compositionally similar to phases in the eclogite xenoliths from the Jagersfontein kimberlite are ascribed to fragmentation of coarse-grained eclogites. They differ compositionally from other megacrysts from Jagersfontein and those found at other localities that are believed to be high-pressure phenocrysts precipitating from kimberlite. The eclogite suite differs from those in other southern African kimberlites, mainly in lacking eclogites containing Ca-rich garnets.
