Abstract:The rocks of the Fana area have been mapped as Sagevika Group (basement in the area), Fana Group (metasediments and granites), Saganes Group (may be Cambro-Silurian?), and Lysekloster Zone, each forming a tectonic unit. The Precambrian rocks of the Fana Group after attaining amphibolite-granulite facies metamorphism (first episode) have been subjected to regional folding which initiated mobilisation and anatexis (second episode), the latter phenomenon is early Caledonian. The rocks of Fana Group present a complete petrologic sequence from meta-arkose to anatectic granite, and occur as a folded plate occupying highest structural position in the area. Post-anatectic deformations are seen as snyformal structure, low angle shear zones and mylonitisation (third episode).
