Geology of the Fana-Krossnes area,West Coast of Norway

The rocks of the Fana area have been mapped as Sagevika Group (basement in the area), Fana Group (metasediments and granites), Saganes Group (may be Cambro-Silurian?), and Lysekloster Zone, each forming a tectonic unit. The Precambrian rocks of the Fana Group after attaining amphibolite-granulite facies metamorphism (first episode) have been subjected to regional folding which initiated mobilisation and anatexis (second episode), the latter phenomenon is early Caledonian. The rocks of Fana Group present a complete petrologic sequence from meta-arkose to anatectic granite, and occur as a folded plate occupying highest structural position in the area. Post-anatectic deformations are seen as snyformal structure, low angle shear zones and mylonitisation (third episode).
