Abstract: | This paper is concerned with the vibrations of an orthotropic rectangular plate with one edge free while the rest are elastically restrained against rotation. The plate is assumed to be thin and its vibration amplitudes small. The plate is in contact with an ideal fluid of infinite extent and the plate-fluid interaction is considered to be quasi-coupled. The calculations are carried out by the Ritz method and the fundamental frequencies for the free and damped vibrations of the rectangular plate are presented. The fluid effect upon the fundamental frequency is briefly discussed. |
