Abstract: | This article is designed to be used as the basis for a student exercise. Students compare statistics about two semiarid regions, one in Africa and one in North America. While cattle are an important part of the economies of both regions, cultural differences lead to different land use outcomes. Local differences in land use, in turn, lead to differing influences on global change. |
