SOME APPROACHES FOR STUDYING THE INTENSITY OF SMALL RIVER AGGRADATION

Small rivers on the south Russian Plain have been rapidly aggraded by products of gully and sheet erosion of hillslopes following increases of the rate of agricultural development, starting from the second half of XIX century.So it is necessary to define the intensity of small river aggradation for the period of intensive agricultural use and to investigate the influence of the small river accumulation on landscape degradation.The variation processes of aggradation for various periods had been estimated on the basisof the measurements Of continuous stream net length.The information about net length was taken from toPOgraphic maps with clOSe scale for different periods.The next stage is the field investigation of the key catchments in the area of desertification.The main criterion is the typical rate of aggradation in the surrounding territory.It is proposed to use several ndirect methods for determining the value of each component of the sediment budget.
