COMPUTATION OF LONG ARCS FOR RADIO PURPOSES

Abstract

In the last instalment of this article I showed how, by computing the difference in height between the spheroid and the sphere at the mid-point of the line, the third order term could be obtained and a more accurate correction to the spherical length applied. This allows the formula to be used for the determination of distances and azimuths for lines far exceeding 1,000 kilometres in length.
