Monitoring Ground Water for Pesticides at a Golf Course - A Case Study on Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Affiliation:Scott W. Horsley is vice president of Horsley Witten Hegemann Inc., (3179 Main St., Courthouse Sq., P.O. Box 7, Barnstable, MA 02630) where he provides expert consultation in water quality science and water resources management. He currently serves on National Water Well Association's Aquifer Protection Committee and was a former member of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Ground Water Steering Committee. He has prepared aquifer protection maps and plans for more than three dozen local governments, has assisted in the development of four successful sole source aquifer petitions, and has served as an expert witness in several court cases involving critical water issues. Recently, he has developed pn analytical model to predict nitrogen concentrations at wellheads based upon land uses with the zones of contribution. He was employed through EPA-funding with the Cape Cod Planning and Economic Development Commission where he developed an analytical model and mapped critical zones of contribution to 130public supply wells throughout Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He holds a master's degree from the University of Rhode Island with academic training in geology, biology, planning and environmental law. Horsley is currently conducting workshops on wellhead protection with the U.S. EnvironmentalProtection Agency and is an adjunct assistant professor at Tufts University in Massachusetts.;John A. Moser received his bachelor's degree in geology from Middlebury College and his master's degree in geology from the University of Massachusetts. He has been employed as a hydrogeologist since 1971. Prior to forming his own ground water consulting firm, Arch Associates (121 Hallett St., Yarmouth Port, MA 02675), he worked in the ground water protection and regulation program for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources. He is the technical advisor to the Water Quality Advisory Committee of the town of Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
