Abstract: | Carboniferous—Lower Permian volcanic rocks and small|scale basic and ultrabasic intrusions occur in Chabu|Chasang region of central Qiangtang plateau in northern Tibet Detailed studies of petrology and geochemistry of magmatic rocks further indicate that there were really a Late Paleozoic rift valley in Chabu|Chasang area, and no so|called Paleo|Tethys suture zone existed there. The rift initially split in early Carboniferous, access the peak in Lower Permian, is closed and folded during Late Permian. The volcanic rocks composed of mainly basalts, a small amount of basaltic andesites and andesites, are zonally distributed, and occur alternately with flysch or flyschoid sandstones, slates, pebbled slates, radiolarian cherts and carbonate rocks. The sedimentary facies change rapidly toward both sides and show rapid deposits of proximal gravity flow. |
