| Abstract: | Sedimentation models that are based on spatial-temporal stochastic processes, are used to simulate stratigraphic profiles. In order to obtain coherence, a basin-wide component is added. The models can be used for judging the significance of stratigraphic correlations that have been obtained by measuring the similarity of different sections (matching); correlations can be achieved by predicting a sedimentary sequence in an unknown locality. |
