Abstract:The principle of maximum entropy is used to explore how the unit stream power VJ ofregime channel is adjusted impartially on its way concerning the variation of width anddepth.Based on the principle of maximum entropy,the primary morphologic equation isderived,and then the equations for hydraulic geometry of longitudinal profile andcross-section are established. For V-shaped cross-sections the relevant morphologiccoefficients thus derived are compared with the existing empirical and semi-empirical formulae. It is found that the theoretical morphologic coefficients are in good agreement withthe statistical mean values of 260 sets of field data from one hundred and more rivers,canals,and model rivers.
