Seismotectonics of the Baikal rift zone

High seismicity in the Baikal rift zone is controlled by the development of conjugate rising and subsiding block structures. Many types of seismological phenomena resulting from large earthquakes are manifested in the rift zone and include seismotectonic (regional, zonal and local), gravity-seismotectonic and seismogravitational deformations. Impulsive as distinct from gradual seismogenetic crustal movements play a dominant role in the recent development of the Baikal geomorphology.
