Statistical formula to estimate heating or cooling degree-days

Abstract:An expression to estimate heating or cooling degree-days accumulated on the average above or below a given temperature and for a given period of time is developed according to a statistical criterion.If the mean daily temperatures for a given month are assurned to be normally distributed the derived formula is only a function of the statistical parameters of the distribution: the normal and the standard deviation.The proposed method compares favorably with the traditional ones concerning the accuracy of the estimates and simplicity of calculations.
