Abstract:We suggest that only slowly spinning stars undergoing gravitational collapse can eject their envelope in a supernova explosion and leave behind a remnant in the form of a neutron star or a pulsar. Faster spinning stars fail to explode and perhaps become black holes.Work supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Grant Nos PHY75-21591 and PHY76-11445.
