Abstract: | Summary. A low-velocity zone (LVZ) shadow on a refraction profile may contain coherent energy. If the LVZ contains reflectors, the corresponding pre-critical reflection branches will lie within the geometrical shadow. Such energy is observed in data and can, via inversion or synthetic seismogram modelling, potentially provide information on the location and character of the main structural features (those with significant reflectivity) within the LVZ. |
