刘鸿允教授的《中国古地理图》和他对古地理学的贡献

刘鸿允教授的代表作《中国古地理图》自1955年正式出版至今已43年。虽然在其后，随着我国地质工作向纵深的发展，在系统性、科学性、准确性等方面都有很大改进的古地理图

ATLAS OF PALAEOGEOGRAPHY OF CHINA BY PROFESSOR LIU HONGYUN AND HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO PALAEOGEOGRAPHY

This paper introduces briefly the situation before and after the publishing of the famous compilation Atlas of Palaeogeography of China by Professor Liu Hongyun . He started his career by compilation of the atlas, and from then on his research was mainly on palaeogeography and stratigraphy.Under the recom mendation of Prof. Sun Yunzhu and advisement of Prof. Huang Jiqing, Liu as a newly graduated young scholar with limited experience and knowledge bravely accepted the task of compiling the atlas. After more than three years, the compilation was completed and honorably prefaced by Prof.Li Siguang.In 1957 the atlas winned the third award of natural sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. After the publishing of the atlas, Liu selected the Sinian of Southern China as his main research target, since he recognized from the compilation that the Sinian was at that time least understood.Through decades consistent study, he made great contributions to the investigation of the Sinian, and consequently The Sinian in China was published in 1991, in which the palaeogeographic maps of different epoches or even ages of the Sinian were enclosed. Again the publication winned the first award of natural science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1994. Prof. Liu has published more than 20 papers on palaeogeography, which are related to the different aspects of this discipline. Palaeoclimatology and mobility of palaeogeographic units are the two important problems which Prof. Liu used to emphasize. The former is related to palaeoenvironments and supergene deposits, and the later is the result of the combination of global plate tectonics and histori-cal evolution. Prof.Liu was anxiously looking forward to the publication of new palaeogeographic atlases with those characteristics.
