A further study of the solution of Poisson's equation for three-dimensional spiral galaxies

Abstract:We consider a three-dimensional model of spiral arms, which are in the form of logarithmic spirals in the galactic plane and falling off exponentially in the perpendicular direction. We derive an analytic solution of the gravitational potential corresponding to this density perturbation. We discuss the effect of the finite thickness on the spiral pattern and the question of stability of the spiral arms.
