Abstract:The purpose of binary population synthesis is to detechne, as far as possible, the consistency of our theoretical understanding of single and binary stars with the statistics of stars in our galaxy (and ultimately other galaxies). It is important to fit all types of stellar systems simulta- neously rather than just concentrsting on particular irces of stars. In this paper, we describe the difficulties and problems of binary populstion synthesis, and the efforts we have made to establish a self-consistent binary population synthesis model.
