Abstract: | Geomorphological studies often require precise devices to measure surface roughness or variations with high precision and good repeatability. A digital measurement device is described, which provides these features and can be linked to a small, light and portable recorder and processor. Such an arrangement allows rapid, accurate data recording by a single operator and can be used in the laboratory or field. With interchangeable measurement rods the vertical range of the instrument is 150 mm, with an actual measured range of 30 mm per rod. The potential accuracy is 0·001 mm with an operating temperature range of+5 to +40°C. Its light weight, relatively low cost and precision make it a useful measuring device which can be adapted for many tasks simply by modification of the stand. |
