Abstract:In contrast to the exoskeleton or normal egg sacs of copepods, egg sacs with resting eggs of Diaptomus castor are exceptionally robust and can be preserved in the Quaternary sedimentary record. Egg sacs referred to Diaptomus cf. castor have been recovered from Late- and Postglacial lake sediments in Denmark and Greenland. The identification of fossil copepod egg sacs is important, since Copepoda is a very important group of invertebrate animals in freshwater bodies; but a group that is rarely reported from lake sediments.
