Abstract:The optimal damping of the isolation layer is different for the three-dimensional(3D)isolated single-layer spherical reticulated shell structure under ground motions with different frequency characteristics.A ground motion dominant frequency dependent semi-active control with variable damping adjusted based on an acceleration threshold and a method to identify the dominant frequency region are proposed based on the acceleration transfer function of the SDOF system.Passive and semi-active control simulations of a 3D isolated single-layer spherical shell are conducted utilizing the DLOAD subroutine in ABAQUS and the structural acceleration and member axial force responses are analyzed.The results show that the semi-active control of complex structures can be achieved by the DLOAD method.The semi-active control method can quickly identify the dominant frequency of the motion,and gradually adjust the demanded damping with acceleration threshold damping optimization to avoid abrupt change of responses due to the damping switch.The dynamic response of the semi-active control is close to that of the optimal passive control which assumes the ground motion is known in prior.
