Abstract:An attempt to give theoretical foundation for understanding the origin of electrostatic waves at electron gyrofrequency in the magnetosphere is presented. The electrostatic dispersion equation describ- ing wave propagation at electron gyrofrequency is investigated in different limiting cases. It is pointed out that this equation can describe weakly damped waves when the electron plasma frequency is above electron gyrofrequency.
