Abstract:This article is a comprehensive report on the biological functions, the study onthe physiological activity and the applications in the clinic and nutritious food oftaurine throughout the world in the recent years.In respect of physiological activityand biological function,we mainly discuss its functions of protecting the liver andthe gall bladder,keeping the structure of the membrane stable and adjusting the osmotic balance, antioxidizing,being the necessary nutritious substance for newbornbabies and making the eyes clear,adjusting the central nervous system and the tissue and blood vessel of the heart and the brain,and detoxifying.Taurine has beenused in clinic to protect the visual function,treat diseases concering with the system of heart and blood vessel,act as antidote,stop bleeding and preserve blood,treat cancer and so on.In respect of nutritious food,taurine has been aapplied tohealth food for children,middle--aged and old people.
