Abstract:The western Tianshan high-pressure metamorphic rocks occur within the greenschist facies country rocks as small discrete blocks, lenses, bands, laminae or intercalated slabs. The protoliths of blueschists and eclogites include N-MORB, E-MORB, OIB, gabbro, basic volcanidastic rock, greywacke and other rock types. Metamorphic assemblages and geochemical dais of major, trace and rare earth elements indicate that the high-pressure rocks were formed within a B-type subduction zone along the north margin of the Early Paleozoic South Tianshan Ocean between the Tarim and the Yili-Central Tianshan plates.
