Fairtrade bananas in the Caribbean: Towards a moral economy of recognition

Working through a Caribbean case study, this paper examines the networks and associations of Fair Trade bananas as they move both materially and morally from farms in St Vincent and the Grenadines to supermarkets and households in the United Kingdom. In doing so, the paper provides grounded empirical evidence of Fair Trade’s moral economy as experienced by banana producers in the Caribbean. The paper follows Nancy Fraser’s distinction between ways of framing justice to argue that, in order to transcend its complex postcolonial positionalities, the Fair Trade Foundation needs to include recognition in its moral economy as well as representation and redistribution. The paper compares the moral framework of Fair Trade as an ideology and social movement with the lived experience of certified Fairtrade banana farmers in the Windward Islands who work mostly for, rather than within, an idealized moral economy. The paper also contributes to several recent debates in the agri-food literature exploring the interconnections between production and consumption, the role of materiality in contemporary food networks, the historical and (post)colonial nature of food moralities, and links between political and moral economies of food. Following an outline of recent debates about the moral economies of food and its relation to Fair Trade as a movement, the paper dissects the moral economy of the Fairtrade Foundation, highlighting the historical and geographical, material and symbolic, gendered and generational ways that food producers in the Global South (in this case, banana farmers in St Vincent and the Grenadines) may be counterposed to ‘responsible’ consumers in the Global North. Despite the good intentions of those who promote the Fair Trade movement through the Fairtrade Foundation and the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation (FLO), our case study reveals a moral economy of non- (or partial) recognition, which has a range of unintended consequences and paradoxical effects.     

基于无人机多源遥感数据海岛植被叶面积指数协同反演研究

无人机多源遥感数据的获取、融合以及应用是当今研究的热点和难点。文中以城洲岛为例,针对海岛特殊的地理生态环境,获取无人机多源遥感数据。结合无人机多光谱遥感数据定量分析各遥感植被指数与植被叶面积指数(Leaf Area Index, LAI)的响应关系,构建单因子遥感反演模型;基于无人机激光LiDAR点云提取海岛植被冠层高度模型(Canopy Height Model,CHM),并将其作为自变量引入到多源统计回归分析中,从而构建多源遥感数据协同反演模型,对区域尺度下海岛叶面积指数(LAI)进行估算,开展验证和精度评价。结果显示,加入植被冠层高度因子的协同反演模型的判定系数R2为0.92,绝对平均误差系数为12.29%,预测精度要优于单因子反演模型(判定次数R2为0.86,绝对平均误差系数19.95%)。研究表明,加入了植被冠层高度因子的协同反演模型能在一定程度上提高乔木植被LAI的预测精度。实践证明,无人机多源遥感技术在生态学定量研究中具有巨大的潜力和广阔的应用前景。

测量机器人精密控制网误差分析

精密控制网测量中,气象因素对边长精度的影响不容忽视.文章针对测量机器人的主要误差来源,对影响精密控制网测量精度的主要因素进行分析:剖析了自动目标识别(ATR)的主要误差源,指出了ATR观测中应选择最佳观测条件以保证角度测量精度;结合实测数据详细分析了温度、气压、折光系数K对边长改正精度的影响,提出了在高精度测量中应精确测定气象因子和选择最佳观测时段测量的思路,并提出了利用三角高程网平差后高差求解各方向动态K值进行边长改正的方法,可有效提高边长改正的精度.最后实例验证了这些措施的可行性.     

基于Fisher判别分析法的雹云识别模式及其效果检验

作者根据雹云等强对流天气的雷达回波参数的数量特征，应用Ｆｉｓｈｅｒ判别分析法，对待识别的强对流天气样本云作出雹云和雷雨云的定性分类判别。用该方法对成都市１９８２～１９９０年的１７３个雹云和雷雨云样本回波资料建模，并对１９９０年的１３个试报样本进行检验。其判别结果与主分量分析法判别结果比较表明该方法用于雹云识别是适合的。     

基于GIS建模的海水环境质量可变模糊识别评价

基于对立统一与质量互变定理的可变模糊评价方法引入海水水质综合评价,构建基于对立统一与质量互变定理的海洋环境质量可变模糊评价模型,首先分析可变模糊评价方法的原理和方法,然后结合GIS栅格数据在表达空间信息方面具有的独特优势,以栅格数据为基础,利用地理信息系统空间叠置分析、地理信息系统空间建模等计算,建立基于多源栅格数据的海水环境可变模糊综合评价模型,得到莱州湾2004~2010年海水环境空间分布图。实践证明,该模型应用于海水水质综合评价是完全可行的,为海洋环境领域的多目标综合评价与决策提供了新的思路与方法。     

逆时偏移在声反射成像测井中的应用方法研究

声反射成像测井中常用的基于射线理论的Kirchhoff积分偏移算法和基于单程波理论的F-K偏移算法均可实现井旁缝洞反射体的快速偏移成像,但其仅适用于地层垂向变化较弱的速度场和高陡角裂缝的偏移成像,无法实现低角度反射体的准确偏移归位,产生偏移假象误导测井解释.逆时偏移基于全波动方程,可适应强垂向变化速度场,实现近似水平反射体的偏移成像.本文详细分析了将逆时偏移应用于声反射成像测井时存在的数据准备、时间采样间隔匹配和成像条件改进等若干问题,通过设置多组理论模型来说明算法对井旁不同反射体的识别能力.模拟资料和实际资料处理结果证实,较F-K偏移算法,逆时偏移算法成像精度更高、收敛性更好,可有效实现近似水平构造偏移归位.改进的归一化互相关成像条件可解决深部地层的远井壁成像衰减问题,降低测井解释的多解性.逆时偏移将成为声反射成像测井高精度偏移技术的发展方向.     

高频GNSS形变波的震相识别：模拟实验与实例分析

高频GNSS震时形变波震相及识别是GNSS地震学的重要内容.在实时数据处理基础上,本文利用振动台的高频GNSS观测实验,并结合近期部分大震的高频GNSS形变波震相特征进行研究.数据处理结果表明,实时处理与事后处理的精度在同一量级,且与采样率无关.通过与同址观测强震仪和地震计记录的对比及特定震相的频谱分析,发现高频GNSS可完整记录P波、S波、Love波及Rayleigh波震相,影响震相记录的主要因素是GNSS定位精度与震级,而仅当震中距很小时,采样率将产生一定影响.研究结果得出：基于地震波传播规律,利用高频GNSS台阵记录的形变波空间分段特征,结合震相运动轨迹及其他地震波记录,可实现实时高频GNSS形变波的震相识别.

Power and politics in climate change adaptation efforts: Struggles over authority and recognition in the context of political instability

Throughout the world, climate change adaptation policies supported by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) have provided significant sources of funding and technical support to developing countries. Yet often the adaptation responses proposed belie complex political realities, particularly in politically unstable contexts, where power and politics shape adaptation outcomes. In this paper, the concepts of authority and recognition are used to capture power and politics as they play out in struggles over governing changing resources. The case study in Nepal shows how adaptation policy formation and implementation becomes a platform in which actors seek to claim authority and assert more generic rights as political and cultural citizens. Focusing on authority and recognition helps illuminate how resource governance struggles often have very little to do with the resources themselves. Foundational to the argument is how projects which seek to empower actors to manage their resources, produce realignments of power and knowledge that then shape who is invested in what manner in adaptation. The analysis adds to calls for reframing ‘adaptation’ to encompass the socionatural processes that shape vulnerability by contributing theoretical depth to questions of power and politics.
