Solid-state 27Al, 29Si and 23Na MAS NMR spectra have been obtained for an Al,Si ordered low albite to low microcline ion exchange series for which unit-cell parameters and 29Si NMR data have previously been reported. 27Al δi vary continuously with composition from 63.4 (±0.5) ppm for albite to 58.9 (±0.5) ppm for microcline, and parallel the 29Si chemical shifts assigned to the T2m-site. The 27Al and 29Si chemical shifts for this series correlate well with composition-dependent lattice parameters, most notably cell volume and the angle [201]1b. The linewidths of the 29Si and 27Al resonances indicate a significant amount of structural disorder in the intermediate compositions due to Na, K substitution. The 1 σ width of the distribution of average Si-O-T angles for each T-site is estimated to be about 1° for the Or33 sample. The average 23Na δi varies monotonically from -8.5 (±1) ppm for albite to -24.3 (±1)ppm for Or83. Similarly, the average 23Na nuclear quadrupole coupling constant decreases from 2.60 to 1.15 (±0.05) MHz and the asymmetry parameter of the electric field gradient increases from 0.25 to 0.6 with increasing K-content from albite to Or83. The observed variations in the quadrupole coupling parameters are consistent with simple electrostatic calculations. Higher resolution 23Na spectra of the intermediate compositions obtained at 11.7 T indicate the presence of an inhomogeneous linebroadening which is related to the distribution of Na-environments. A model based on a random distribution of local compositions does not simulate the spectra, suggesting that the distribution of Na is skewed toward Na-rich clusters. Observation of the 23Na NMR lineshape of Or49 after short periods of heat treatment indicate that 23Na NMR is very sensitive to the changes in the Na, K distribution accompanying the early stages of exsolution. Reversible changes occur after heating at 530° C for 3 h, whereas heating at 600° C produces no changes, possibly bracketing the position of the coherent spinodal for Al, Si ordered alkali feldspars at this composition.  相似文献

High-resolution 27Al MAS NMR spectra of natural leucite recorded at H 0=11.7T contain three resolvable resonances at 27Al δ i = 69.2, 64.7, and 61.0±0.5 ppm. These three resonances are assigned to the three inequivalent framework positions of leucite: T3, T2, and T1, respectively. Fitting the observed spectra yields a Si,Al distribution for leucite in which approximately one-half of the Al is in T1 and one-quarter in each of T2 and T3. This Si,Al distribution differs substantially from those obtained by previous workers using 29Si NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. New 29Si NMR spectra and revision of previously reported 29Si NMR peak assignments, however, make the 27Al and 29Si NMR results consistent. The 27Al δ i correlate linearly with the mean T-O-T′ bond angles of the average structure, which allows the peak assignments to be made. However, this correlation lies distinctly toward higher frequency and larger bond angles than correlations for Si,Al ordered aluminosilicates, suggesting that the mean T(Al)-O-T′(Si) bond angle for each site in leucite is smaller than the mean bond angle of the average structure, which is averaged over T(Al)-O-T′(Si) and T(Si)-OT′(Si,Al) angles.  相似文献

Reduction of octahedral Fe in the crystalline structure of smectites influences, possibly controls, surface-sensitive physical and chemical properties. The purpose of this study was to investigate if reduction of structural Fe by Na-dithionite or bacteria affects the chemical environment of constituent cations in montmorillonite, employing solid state multinuclear (29Si and 27Al) magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) spectroscopy. Reduction of structural Fe resulted in a positive (down field) chemical shift of the main Si Q3 (Q3(0Al)) site which was strongly correlated with Fe(II) content and inferred that distortions in Si-OT (T=Si, Al) bond angles and Si-O bond lengths occur with increasing layer charge. The line width (W) of the 29Si Q3 signal also increased with increasing levels of reduction. No change occurred in the position of the peak maximum for the octahedral Al (27AlVI) signal; however, an increased W was observed for this peak with increasing Fe(II) content. These results are attributed to decreases in Si-O-T bond angles and Si-O bond distances, corresponding to a better fit between the tetrahedral and octahedral sheets brought about by the presence of Fe(II) in the clay structure. The increased 27AlVI signal width (W) may also be due to a lessening of the paramagnetic influence of Fe(III) nuclei and enhancement of 27AlVI signals with different quadrupole coupling constants (QCC). Multinuclear MAS NMR analyses of dithioniteand microbially-reduced montmorillonite indicate that reduction of structural Fe caused reversible changes in the smectite structure, at least as far as this method could discern.  相似文献

We report the discovery of two binary M dwarf systems in the immediate solar neighbourhood using the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS). The first is an M6.5 companion to the nearby G star HD 86728 (Gl 376). The known properties of HD 86728 indicate that the M dwarf (Gl 376B) is old, metal-rich and only 14.9 parsec away. The M dwarf is highly active, with both H α and X-ray emission. Thus, Gl 376B offers the opportunity to study an old, bright, active M dwarf with known metallicity, age and luminosity. We show that it is probable that Gl 376B is itself an unresolved pair. The other system consists of an M6.5 and an M8 dwarf with 14.5 arcsec separation. We estimate a distance of ∼16 parsec for this very low-mass pair. Stronger activity is observed in the M6.5 dwarf, supporting evidence that chromospheric activity is weakening near the hydrogen-burning limit.  相似文献

Change in spatial economies, industrial technologies and societal attitudes can make long-established systems of resource allocation inefficient. Through a detailed examination of the procedures by which publicly owned forest has been allocated in Tasmania, this paper illustrates spatial, economic and other inefficiencies that have become embedded in the concession system. Analysis shows that the long-term costs of transporting timber to processing sites could be significantly reduced by rationalization of concession boundaries. Recommendations are also made that would produce more efficient use of forest resources. Inter alia, the paper illustrates the vulnerability of peripheral economies to big business enterprises.  相似文献

The geological, biological, geomorphological and human history of Tasmania makes it highly varied scenically, very different from the mainland and scientifically fascinating. The artefacts of early European settlers survived as the Tasmanian economy stagnated. Therefore Tasmania contains most of the standing evidence of the early stages of the brief recorded history of Australia. These remnants are of high heritage significance. Australia possesses the type of economy that depends on continual expansion for full employment and a reasonable distribution of wealth. The brunt of its recessions are taken by the people who produce minerals, clothing and food, rather than those who perform higher, but less basic functions, in cities. Thus, people in peripheral places like Tasmania are trained to value jobs very highly and to identify jobs with the development of physical resources. The development of heritage consciousness and a rejection of materialism made Tasmania attractive to a substantial element of the population, many of whom migrated to the state during the years in which prosperity reigned in Australia as a whole and the Hydro‐electric Commission orchestrated Tasmanian economic development. Tasmania has a long history of sacrificing heritage to development, but the history of popular objection to development only effectively starts well after the decision was made in 1973 to enlarge Lake Pedder for a mote of power. Although growthists dominate the state and country, conservationists provide a model for the future and the means, occasionally, for the survival of heritage.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the infrared active modes of meteoritic and synthetic tridymite have been investigated between 23 K and 1073 K in IR absorption and IR emission experiments. At room temperature both tridymite samples consist of a mixture of low temperature forms, in different proportions, due to the grinding. The sequence of phase transitions in Steinbach tridymite deduced from the IR data agrees well with recent X-ray and calorimetry studies using identical samples (Cellai et al. 1994). The previously suspected structural phase transition P6322P63/mmc is confirmed by the disappearance of the 470 cm-1 mode and a temperature anomaly of the spectral shift of the 790 cm-1 mode. Changes in the infrared spectra of synthetic tridymite give a different sequence of phase transitions from those of the meteoritic sample, consistent with the structural phase transitions observed in a 29Si MAS NMR investigation using the same sample (Xiao et al. 1993).  相似文献

Predicting the distribution of Inherent Optical Properties (IOPs) in the water column requires predicting the physical, chemical, biological, and optical interactions in a common framework that facilitates feedback responses. This work focuses on the development of ecological and optical interaction equations embedded in a 2D hindcast model of the shallow water optical properties on the West Florida Shelf (WFS) during late summer/fall of 1998. This 2D simulation of the WFS includes one case with a Loop Current intrusion above the 40-m isobath and one with the Loop Current intrusion in addition to a periodic terrestrial nutrient supply below the 10-m isobath. The ecological and optical interaction equations are an expansion of a previously developed model for open ocean conditions (Bissett, W.P., Carder, K.L., Walsh, J.J., Dieterle, D.A., 1999a. Carbon cycling in the upper waters of the Sargasso Sea: II. Numerical simulation of apparent and inherent optical properties. Deep-Sea Research, Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers, 46 (2), 271–317; Bissett, W.P., Walsh, J.J., Dieterle, D.A., Carder, K.L., 1999b. Carbon cycling in the upperwaters of the Sargasso Sea: I. Numerical simulation of differential carbon and nitrogen fluxes. Deep-Sea Research, Part I: Oceanographic Research Papers, 46 (2), 205–269). The expansion includes an increase in the number of elemental pools to include silica, phosphorus, and iron, an increase in the number of phytoplankton functional groups, and a redevelopment of the Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) and Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) interaction equations. It was determined from this simulation that while the Loop Current alone was able to predict the water column conditions present during the summer, the Loop Current alone was not enough to simulate the magnitude of optical constituents present in the fall of 1998 when compared to satellite imagery. Simulating terrestrial inorganic and organic nutrients and CDOM pulses coinciding with significant meteorological events and high freshwater pulses released from the major rivers feeding the WFS were required to accurately predict the distribution and scale of the inherent optical properties at the surface during the fall months. Modeling the in situ light field for phytoplankton growth and community competition requires addressing the CDOM optical constituent explicitly. The majority of the annually modeled CDOM on WFS was created via in situ production; however, it was also rapidly removed via advection and photochemical destruction. A pulse of terrestrial nutrient and organic color was required to simulate the dramatic changes in surface color seen in satellite imagery on the WFS. The dynamics of the biogeochemical portion of the simulation demonstrate the importance of nonstoichiometric supplies of terrestrial nutrients on the WFS to the prediction of nutrient and CDOM fluxes.  相似文献

The results of a detailed TEM study of the low frequency modes of distortion of high temperature SiO2-tridymite and their relationship to the extensive structural polymorphism of tridymite are presented. It is found that low energy modes of distortion of the ideal tridymite tetrahedral framework structure give rise to a strong and extremely characteristic diffuse intensity distribution (which can be broken into two component types) for the two highest temperature polymorphs of tridymite. Experimental results strongly suggest that this observed diffuse distribution is not a result of irreversible beam damage but is rather an intrinsic property of the ideal tridymite tetrahedral framework structure. The diffuse intensity distribution is closely related to the lower temperature polymorphs of tridymite — in particular, the primary modulation wave-vectors of these low temperature polymorphs always fall on the higher temperature diffuse distribution. The first type of diffuse distribution appears to result from coupled tetrahedral edge rotation of 〈110〉 columns of corner-connected SiO4 tetrahedra (uncorrelated from column to column as a result of the tetrahedral connectivity of the ideal tridymite framework structure). The real space structural origin of the second curved type of diffuse distribution, however, remains unclear.  相似文献

Calculations of the rigid unit mode (RUM) spectrum of the high-temperature phase of SiO2 tridymite are used to explain the patterns of diffuse scattering seen in transmission electron microscopy experiments. These results show that RUM's can occur with wave vectors on curved surfaces in reciprocal space rather than being confined to symmetry points, lines or planes. The fact that the calculations reproduce the detail seen in the diffuse scattering provides a striking nontrivial confirmation of the validity of the rigid unit mode model.  相似文献
