The following new theorem is proved: the equation E/RTB =ln(1.781 k0τ), where E = activation energy, R = the molar gas constant and TB = blocking temperature, applies equally well to both the isotopic and the magnetic systems in rocks from a cooling orogen. The isotopic model involves first-order loss of daughter, while the magnetic model applies to an assemblage of single-domain grains with constant E. Dodson supplied the original proof that the equation applied to isotopic systems. The well-known superficial similarity between the concepts of isotopic and magnetic blocking is thus given quantitative expression.  相似文献

新疆北部富蕴县内希勒库都克铜钼矿区的花岗闪长岩及其包体岩相学、矿物化学和岩石地球化学特征及野外地质特征显示其为岩浆混合作用的结果。本文获得花岗闪长岩及其中暗色微粒包体玄武安山玢岩、细粒辉长闪长岩锆石U-Pb年龄为326.8±2.1Ma、327.6±2.4Ma、329.3±2.3Ma,年龄值基本一致,这一结果从年代学角度为花岗闪长岩及其中暗色微粒包体的岩浆混合作用成因提供证据。偏酸性的花岗闪长质与偏基性玄武安山质岩浆混合作用形成了331.9±2.1Ma的安山玢岩脉。  相似文献

Dating pollen concentrated from sediment samples is a way to improve lake-sediment chronology. The predominantly terrestrial origin of pollen assemblages minimizes, for example, the reservoir effect inherent in bulk sediment samples, especially from hard-water lakes. Pollen can be concentrated for dating by a combination of sieving and chemical treatment (Brown et al . 1989). This study illustrates the difficulty in applying a single, standard procedure, and demonstrates the need for flexibility depending on lake sediment characteristics and the particular pollen flora. Samples taken at the Ulmus decline were prepared and AMS-dated following different steps of the pollen concentration procedure. The results showed that both sieving and chemical treatment were needed to obtain an age close to the expected age for the Ulmus decline. The pollen concentrate dated c . 1000 years younger than a bulk date from the same level, but is close to the expected age based on correlation with dates for the Ulmus decline from Sphagnum peat sequences in north-western Europe. A compilation of bulk dates at the Ulmus decline implies that pollen concentrates would be a better material for dating than bulk samples for many lake sediments, not only for those from hard-water lakes.  相似文献

A range of large-scale dunes of oolitic calcarenite composition are exposed in the Corinth Basin of central Greece. These transverse dunes and a very large linear dune (> 15 m high) lie within an Upper Pleistocene, transgressive marine sequence. Tidal flow, accelerated by constriction through a narrow, fault-bounded seaway, is interpreted to have generated the current velocities necessary to produce the dunes. Marine facies in the Upper Pleistocene sequence include beach to offshore conglomerates and sandstones with wave-modified sedimentary structures and herringbone cross-stratification. An offshore facies association comprises variably bioturbated siltstones and sandstones with a varied marine fauna that includes thermophile species such as scleractinian corals and Strombus bubonius. Oolitic sandstone facies also occur. Oolitic sands were apparently produced in shoal environments subject to tidal (and wave) action, and transported by dominant southerly currents over the southern part of the basin. Oolites accumulated in a linear dune 2.7 km long and 15–20 m high and in three-dimensional transverse dunes up to 10 m high having a variety of compound and simple internal geometries. The isolated, WSW-ENE-trending linear form exhibits angle of repose sedimentary dips (up to 35°) of avalanche sets on its SE flank and sets typically with dips of 15–20° to the NW. Internal high-angle discontinuities are developed in the SE-dipping lee face. It is proposed that a dominant north-to-south flow crossed over the crest obliquely, resulting in both net erosional and depositional processes on the lee flank. A subordinate (?tidal) current may have locally and or periodically crossed the dune crest in a westwards direction. A string of transverse dunes, which were located adjacent to a fault/marine terrace scarp, is interpreted to have originally coalesced to form the linear dune. The distribution of transverse and linear dunes together with the palaeogeographical reconstruction suggest that a marine connection periodically existed across the Corinth Isthmus during the Late Pleistocene due to a combination of active faulting and glacio-eustatic highstands of sea level.  相似文献

A strong correlation in the geometry and mineralogy of two cement generations of a Quaternary with a Precambrian calcarenite enables us to reconstruct the diagenetic history of the Precambrian limestone. Both calcarenites contain two cement generations (A and B) of which A consists of dolomite, B of calcite. The following diagenetic stages can be recognized: after deposition of the allochems in a shallow marine environment, cementation in the intertidal zone with magnesian calcite (cement A) led to the formation of beachrock (Stage 1). By lowering of the sea level, the beach rock was shifted into the supratidal zone, but still remained under the predominant influence of the sea water (breakers, spray). During longer periods of aridity, the magnesian calcite of cement A and of the allochems was transformed into dolomite by brines derived from sea water with very high Mg/Ca ratio (> 15), whereas aragonite and calcite remained unaffected. After further lowering of the sea, an increasing influence of meteoric water caused the wet transformation of aragonitic allochems to sparry calcite and to the precipitation of sparry calcitic cement B.  相似文献

40Ar-39Ar ages have been obtained on samples of impact melt from the Lake Mien and Siljan hypervelocity impact structures in Sweden. Two samples of rhyolite from Lake Mien yield a plateau age of 118.7±2.3 m.y., which is consistent with earlier conventional K-Ar results. We present observations of CLASS B2108+213, the widest separation gravitational lens system discovered by the Cosmic Lens All-Sky Survey. Radio imaging using the VLA at 8.46 GHz and MERLIN at 5 GHz shows two compact components separated by 4.56 arcsec with a faint third component in between which we believe is emission from a lensing galaxy. 5-GHz VLBA observations reveal milliarcsecond-scale structure in the two lensed images that is consistent with gravitational lensing. Optical emission from the two lensed images and two lensing galaxies within the Einstein radius is detected in Hubble Space Telescope imaging. Furthermore, an optical gravitational arc, associated with the strongest lensed component, has been detected. Surrounding the system is a number of faint galaxies which may help explain the wide image separation. A plausible mass distribution model for CLASS B2108+213 is also presented.  相似文献
