We have obtained Hα fluxes and luminosities for a sample of 95 galaxies from observations of 31 Hickson Compact Groups (HCGs) in the northern hemisphere. This sample is the largest Hα selected catalogue of galaxies having Hα calibrated fluxes so far. The results obtained from a preliminary analysis of a subsample of66 galaxies show that the Hα luminosity of the galaxies is correlated with velocity dispersion and compactness of groups. These correlations would point towards a scenario in which the brightest Hα galaxies reside in compact groups having higher probability of galaxy interaction, i.e. lower values of velocity dispersion. Moreover, such relations seem to depend on the environment in which HCGs themselves are embedded. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We have previously developed a method for characterizing and localizing 'homogeneous' buried sources, from the measure of potential anomalies at a fixed height above ground (magnetic, electric and gravity). This method is based on potential theory and uses the properties of the Poisson kernel (real by definition) and the continuous wavelet theory. Here, we relax the assumption on sources and introduce a method that we call the 'multiscale tomography'. Our approach is based on the harmonic extension of the observed magnetic field to produce a complex source by use of a complex Poisson kernel solution of the Laplace equation for complex potential field. A phase and modulus are defined. We show that the phase provides additional information on the total magnetic inclination and the structure of sources, while the modulus allows us to characterize its spatial location, depth and 'effective degree'. This method is compared to the 'complex dipolar tomography', extension of the Patella method that we previously developed. We applied both methods and a classical electrical resistivity tomography to detect and localize buried archaeological structures like antique ovens from magnetic measurements on the Fox-Amphoux site (France). The estimates are then compared with the results of excavations.  相似文献

The karst Tabular Middle Atlas Causses reservoir is the main drinking-water supply of Fez-Meknes region (Saïs Basin) in Morocco. Recent analyses showed a decline in associated groundwater chemical quality and increased turbidity. To understand this hydrosystem, four surveys were undertaken during fall and spring, 2009–2011. Hydrogeochemical studies coupled with isotopic analyses (δ18O, δD and 222Rn) showed that the aquifers between the causses (mountains) and the Saïs Basin are of Liassic origin and at the southern extremities are of Triassic origin. Five recharge zones of different altitudes have been defined, including two main mixing zones in the south. Deuterium excess results suggest local recharge, while a plot of δ18O versus δD characterizes a confined aquifer in the eastern sector. 222Rn results reveal areas of rapid exchanges with an upwelling time of less than 2 weeks. A schematic conceptual model is presented to explain the groundwater circulation system and the behavior of this karst system.  相似文献

Deep J- and K s-band images covering a 5 × 5 arcmin area centred on the NTT Deep Field have been obtained during the Science Verification of SOFI at the NTT. These images were made available via the Web in early June, 1998. The preliminary results we have obtained by the analysis of these data are the following: (i) the counts continue to rise with no evidence of a turnover or of a flattening down to the limits of the survey (K s = 22.5 and J = 24 mag); (ii) we find a slope d log(N)/dm≈ 0.37, in agreement with most of the faintest surveys but much steeper than the Hawaii survey; (iii) fainter than K s ≈ 19and J ≈ 20 mag, the median J-K colour of galaxies shows a break in its reddening trend turning toward bluer colours; (iv) faint bluer galaxies also display a larger compactness index, and a smaller apparent size.
