The OmegaCAM wide-field optical imager is the sole instrument on the VLT Survey Telescope at ESO’s Paranal Observatory. The instrument, as well as the telescope, have been designed for surveys with very good, natural seeing-limited image quality over a 1 square degree field. OmegaCAM was commissioned in 2011 and has been observing three ESO Public Surveys in parallel since October 15, 2011. We use the Astro-WISE information system to monitor the calibration of the observatory and to produce the Kilo Degree Survey (KiDS). Here we describe the photometric monitoring procedures in Astro-WISE and give a first impression of OmegaCAM’s photometric behavior as a function of time. The long-term monitoring of the observatory goes hand in hand with the KiDS survey production in Astro-WISE. KiDS is observed under partially non-photometric conditions. Based on the first year of OmegaCAM operations it is expected that a ~ 1–2 % photometric homogeneity will be achieved for KiDS.  相似文献

Based on a new set of electronic spectra in a relatively wide spectral range (3500–8300 Å) and using the methods of spectrum disentangling (code KOREL) and solution of RV curves (code FOTEL), we determined new orbital elements of the binary star κ Dra. The solution of the radial velocity curves for Balmer and some other strong metallic lines suggested a circular orbit and led to the following orbital elements: period P = 61.555 ± 0.029 days, epoch of periastron passage T periast = 49980.22 ± 0.59, RV semi-amplitude K 1 = 6.81 ± 0.24 km s?1, and a mass function of f(m) = 0.002 M . Lines of the secondary were not detected. In addition, moving absorption bumps in the violet peaks of Hα and Hβ lines were found to be phase-locked with the orbital period. Their presence suggests some kind of interaction between the binary components.  相似文献

Both climate change and river rehabilitation projects induce changes in floodplain sedimentation. Notably along the lower River Rhine, the sediment deposition patterns and rates are subject to change. To assess the magnitude of these changes, we developed the MoCSED model, a floodplain sedimentation model within a geographical information system for the lower Rhine River. We based MoCSED on the ‘method of characteristics’ (MoC), a particle tracking method that minimizes numerical dispersion. We implemented the MoCSED model in the PCRaster dynamic modelling language. The model input comprises initial suspended sediment concentrations, water levels, flow velocities, and longitudinal and transverse dispersivities. We used a combination of the Krone and Chen concepts to calculate the subsequent sedimentation (SED routine). We compared the model results with sediment trap data for the Bemmel floodplain along the Dutch Waal River during the 2003 inundation. This comparison showed that MoCSED was able to simulate the pattern of sediment deposition. In addition, the model proved to be an improvement in comparison with a conventional raster‐based floodplain sedimentation model for the lower River Rhine. In future, MoCSED may serve well to study the impact of a changing discharge regime due to climate change and floodplain rehabilitation plans on deposition of sediments. The paper reviews the Astro-WISE infrastructure and demonstrates that the Astro-WISE Information System provides a Grid itself. We describe the integration of Astro-WISE with an external Grid infrastructure (BiGGrid). The integration is performed on all infrastructural layers (data storage, metadata and processing layers) with Astro-WISE as a “master” infrastructure. We report the use of the integrated infrastructure for the processing of Astro-WISE hosted data and for the future development of Astro-WISE and Target projects.  相似文献

The Astro-WISE information system was developed to handle data processing for the KIDS survey. In this paper we describe the adaptation of the WISE concept to allow scaling to support archives containing tens of petabytes of stored data and the changes we introduced to accommodate the system for the LOFAR Long Term Archive. With this we provide an example of how Astro-WISE technology can be adapted to support a wider range and scale of data.  相似文献

Teaching numerical modelling in the environmental sciences not only needs good software and course material but also an understanding of how to program the models in the computer. Conventional environmental modelling procedures require computer science and programming skills, which may detract from the important understanding of the environmental processes involved. An alternative strategy is to build a generic toolkit or modelling language that operates with concepts and operations that are familiar to the environmental scientist. PCRaster is such a spatio-temporal environmental modelling language developed at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. It is used for teaching modelling in classrooms and over the Web (distance learning) at three levels: (1) explaining environmental processes and models, where models with a fixed structure of model equations are evaluated by changing model parameters, (2) teaching model construction, where students learn to program spatial and temporal models with the language, and (3) teaching all phases of scientific modelling related to field research. So far, we have received positive responses to these courses, largely because the software provides a set of easily learned functions matching the conceptual thought processes of a geoscientist that can be used at all levels of teaching.  相似文献
