Whole-rock samples of 25 carbonaceous chondrites were analysed for contents of C, H and N and δ13C, δD and δ15N. Inhomogeneous distribution of these isotopes within individual meteorites is pronounced in several cases. Few systematic intermeteorite trends were observed; N data are suggestive of isotopic inhomogeneity in the early solar system. Several chondrites revealed unusual compositions which would repay further, more detailed study. The data are also useful for classification of carbonaceous chondrites; N abundance and isotopic compositions can differentiate existing taxonomic groups with close to 100% reliability; Al Rais and Renazzo clearly constitute a discrete “grouplet”; and there are hints that both CI and CM groups may each be divisible into two subgroups.  相似文献

Analytical techniques of improved sensitivity have revealed details of the concentrations and isotopic compositions of light elements for a comprehensive suite of samples from the Apollo 12 regolith. These samples show a wide spread in maturity, although maximum contents observed for solar wind elements are less than observed at other sites, possibly reflecting relative recency of craters at the Apollo 12 site. Isotopic composition of nitrogen is consistent with the idea that 15N/14N in the solar wind has increased with time, at least a major part of this increase having occurred in the past 3.1 Gyr. Sulfur isotope systematics support a model in which sulfur is both added to the regolith, by meteoritic influx and lost, by an isotopically selective process. Most soils from this site are heavily contaminated with terrestrial carbon.  相似文献

Determinations of spatial and temporal variations in organic matter and nutrient dynamics in water and sediments are crucial for understanding changes in aquatic bodies. In this study, we (i) determine the spatial dynamics of dissolved inorganic nutrients, during the transition from the dry to the rainy season, and (ii) provide future productivity predictions for the Rufiji Delta mangroves, Tanzania, based on the input of various nutrients. Water samples were collected from six locations, three times per year between April 2012 and January 2014, and analysed for dissolved nutrients, total organic and inorganic carbon, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and total carotenoids. The prediction of future net primary productivity in the Rufiji mangroves was undertaken using the software STELLA. The mean nutrient concentrations were of the order: nitrate > phosphate > ammonium > silica > dissolved organic carbon. The study revealed that high nutrient concentrations occurred in the northern part of the Rufiji Delta as a result of anthropogenic influence in the watershed. Modelling of nutrient inputs into the delta indicated enhanced primary productivity, which is expected to increase the vulnerability of water quality in the near future due to eutrophication.  相似文献

Iron-bearing olivines and pyroxenes occurring in Orgueil may represent a separate population distinct from the magnesian varieties previously reported. Compositions of these iron-bearing silicates are inconsistent with an origin by direct equilibrium condensation in the nebula. Such an origin is more plausible for the magnesian silicates but lacks conclusive evidence. An extra-solar system origin for either mafic population is possible though similarly lacking in evidence.About 15% of the olivines, randomly distributed with respect to iron content, retain particle track evidence of a pre-compaction irradiation.  相似文献

Hydrogen sulfide in hydrothermal vent fluid at the 21°N site is enriched in 34S relative to Mid-Ocean Ridge basalts, probably by addition of H2S reduced from seawater sulfate by FeO-bearing basalt. Metalliferous sulfides are depleted in 34S relative to the fluid from which they apparently precipitated, the degree of depletion reflecting the microenvironment in which each mineral crystallised and/or kinetic effects. Isotopic compositions of coexisting sulfides in a basal mound are consistent with equilibration at around 445°C, though heating to such a high temperature seems unlikely. Similar sulfides in a black smoker and in a dead chimney are out of isotopic equilibrium at any temperature, apparently reflecting a complex series of replacement mineralisations and post-depositional oxidation, respectively.  相似文献

Hydrogen isotopic compositions in seven carbonaceous chondrites lie in the range ?70 to +771‰ relative to SMOW. These values decrease, to a range from ?145 to +219‰, after low-temperature oxidation in an oxygen plasma. Deuterium enrichment is therefore concentrated in the organic matter, the hydrous silicates probably lying close to the terrestrial range for such material. Calculated values for δD of the organic fraction are +450 ‰ for Orgueil and Ivuna and up to +1600‰ for Renazzo. These enrichments, at least for Orgueil and Ivuna, suggest equilibration with protosolar hydrogen at very low temperatures. Assuming a value of 2.5 × 10?5 for the protosolar D/H ratio, nominal equilibration temperatures of 230°K for silicates and 180°K for organic matter may be derived.  相似文献

Pronounced variations in abundances and isotopic compositions of some light elements in soils from the Apollo 16 site are interpreted in terms of differing degrees of solar wind exposure for an originally, and approximately, homogeneous regolith. Carbon abundances in soils are compatible with a model in which equilibrium is established, after 104-105 yr, between solar wind input and loss by H stripping. However, this model does not explain the observed C isotopic distribution, suggesting that other sources of C or other processes, or both, are also important. Carbon abundances in rocks from Apollo 16 are higher (average 40 ppm) than at other landing sites although their isotopic compositions, ?35 < δ13C < ?16%. PDB, are normal. Abundances of N and, to a less extent, He and H in soils correlate with C as does a fraction of metallic Fe attributed to in situ reduction of indigenous Fe2+ by solar wind H.Fillet soil 67461 apparently contains solar wind C and N in a relatively unfractionated form, yielding an upper limit to solar wind (δ13C of ?16%., PDB and a value of 3.4 for CN in the solar wind.Sulfur at the Apollo 16 site represents a paradox in that, although abundances in soils are apparently controlled by local rock S contents, they also correlate, for all but one sample, with δ34S, which itself is apparently controlled by surface exposure age. Analysis of the most primitive meteorites can yield detailed information about environmental conditions and physical/chemical processes in the earliest Solar System, including the nebular stage during which planetesimals were accreted. Such information pertains to time scales, thermal and chemical evolution, inhomogeneity and mixing, magnetic fields, and grain growth in the solar nebula. Nebular processes identified include evaporation, condensation, localized melting, and fractionation both of solids from gas and among different solids. Little direct evidence remains even in primitive meteorites of the actual accretion process. The absence of intrinsic factors capable of enhancing accretion among meteoritic constituents suggests that gravitational instabilities might have been important in promoting planetesimal accretion.  相似文献
